Yes it actually works! Nitinol foil can be bent at room temperature or below, and returns to mostly flat/straight upon heating. Performance tends to get better with repeat cycles and/or with additional heat treatments. If you bend it too much it may not return to perfectly straight – experiment with it carefully and soon you will have a good understanding of the material’s capabilities.
Incredibly strong, corrosion resistant, biocompatible material is soft at room temperature and stiff and springy at 50C and above
Perfect for designing custom nitinol shape memory parts. Material can be heat treated to remember a new shape of your choosing.
Sheet is thin enough to be cut by hand with a decent pair of metal shears.
Maximum sheet size is 31.5 x 7.5 inches ( 80 x 19 cm). Full sheet weighs 300 grams (1.27 grams per square inch).
